Our mission and Philosophy

Rain or Shine School - rewilding education.

Mission

Rain or Shine School exists to reconnect children with nature, community, and themselves through meaningful, play-based learning rooted in the rhythms of the natural world. We cultivate environments where children are free to explore, take risks, and develop confidence, resilience, and a deep sense of belonging. Through this work, we nurture a lifelong relationship with the earth and a generation of thoughtful, capable stewards.

We believe

At Rain or Shine School, we view early childhood not as a transition away from home, but as an expansion of it. Our program is rooted in community, where children, teachers, and families come together to create a shared experience of learning and belonging.

Guided by the rhythms of nature, children spend their days immersed in meaningful play, exploration, and real-life experiences. The outdoors becomes both classroom and teacher, offering endless opportunities for curiosity, resilience, and connection. Through this, children come to know themselves, each other, and the natural world in a deep and embodied way.

We believe children are capable, thoughtful participants in their own learning. By honoring their interests and allowing space for discovery, we nurture confidence, independence, and a lasting sense of wonder. In doing so, we are not only supporting their development but also cultivating a generation that feels connected to and responsible for the earth they call home.

Our highest endeavor must be to develop free human beings who are able of themselves to impart purpose and direction to their lives. The need for imagination, a sense of truth, and a feeling of responsibility—these three forces are the very nerve of education.
